our journey

2002–2004

While art students at Westmont College & Portland State, Cate & Chris meet & fall in love at summer camp where they work as camp counselors. They endure a 2 year long distance relationship, sending each other mixtapes & annoying their dorm mates with late night phone calls (sorry, Lisa & Mark!)

2004–2006

2006–2014

Chris & Cate move to Camphill Soltane, an intentional community where they live & work with adults with intellectual differences. The Clother family grows from 2 to 5! Cate earns her MSEd. from Portland State & a certificate in digital photography from Brooks Institute.

2018–2023

Cate & Chris both complete their BFAs & tie the knot! Cate works with kids & art at Portland Children's Museum and Chris hawks art supplies while they seek a vocational path that would allow them to do meaningful, creative work in the world.

The Clother family moves back west to Cate's hometown of Dunsmuir, CA. Chris works as an art teacher & executive director for a nonprofit hospice. Cate continues to work for Soltane as Director of Storytelling & Communications. Cate & Chris found Cedar Grove Center for Rural Renewal.

Cate founds Cordella Press & designs her first website & brand. She begins to work for Camphill Soltane as a development professional, building websites, designing brands, writing grants, & taking photos & videos for the nonprofit.

2014–2018

2024 & beyond!

Cate & Chris decide to go freelance with the founding of Clother Creative! They're excited to bring their passions for beautiful images, words, & design to their northern California community & beyond!

“Can't recommend her highly enough!"

"Cate was the best ever."

"Our family photo shoot with Cate was the best ever. She chose a perfect location that fit our vibe, worked magic with our little kids to get them engaged and smiling, and captured all the best moments. We used some of the images in a holiday card and everyone was asking who took the pictures?! Cate. Go get yours. Good family photos are priceless."

"Cate is my favorite photographer to work with."

"Cate Clother is by far my favorite photographer to work with. Not only is she extremely talented, but she is an incredible and loving human being. That kindness and passion really comes through in the way she is able to capture the moments on film. My family had so much fun at our session and the photos she took are some of my favorites. I will cherish these photos forever and I feel so grateful that we got to work with Cate!"

"Cate was really fun to work with! She knew some pretty spots around the river and has a very good eye. She made me feel very comfortable during our photoshoot. I loved how my photos turned out!"
